a quick writeup on my time at cafkl + photos of the sketches i did!!
long time no see!! i just wanted to do a quick writeup about my new book, Red Beans! ^0^
i was actually going to do a new comic for CAFKL – to which i am attending and participating in for the first time this year! but i couldn’t… do it. ever since the new semester started, life’s been kicking me in the face with all of its strength. and i’m only in week three right now, so hopefully it’s all better from here. that being said, i was buckling under the con’s deadline and couldn’t produce what i wanted to do. i got really sick for a few days and my hands just wouldn’t draw anything cool.
in a moment of clarity (read: panic), i decided to turn to one of my other passions, that being writing! it did feel unconventional and a little daring to sell… well, an illustrated novel as opposed to a comic, at a comic-centric convention. but then again, i was becoming pretty much okay with the idea of taking risks. i mean, i started doing t-shirts last year. which i still wanna do, just some setbacks have definitely hindered me as of late.
that aside, i ended up churning out the book in about a day – but it was the rest of the process that was going at me. i managed to commission some of my amazing friends to do illustrations for the book! they worked under some incredible time constraints and for that, i am forever grateful. i had asked each of them to interpret my characters’ appearance however they see fit – only giving them basic text descriptions to work off.
writing… i’ve always thought writing was more my strength than drawing, to be honest. but i love drawing too! and i thought i should’ve capitalized on that more than anything for my convention stuff. but i’m happy to be breaking away from just that. i had it in my head that i’ll only sell things if i do popular anime prints at local comic cons – and despite that belief, my sales proved otherwise. but last year, when i started doing more original things – more of the things that i want and i like, everything picked up and i just… generally felt better about myself.
(my sales were better, too.)
so i mean like, always be aware of trends and what will generate profit but… generally when you love something so much, it tends to show. and people tend to notice the things you’re passionate about. sometimes they’ll notice it so much so, that they’ll give you their money for it. who knew, right?
this post will be amended upon Red Beans’ release at this weekend’s CAFKL! come find me at Quill City Mall!
to those who can’t make it, i’ll be selling the book again at Visual Arts Expo the following week. and then i’ll bring it with me to any subsequent cons. after CAFKL, i’ll also be selling the book on my itch.io!
see you then!!
went out to see Midnight Special with ili and vanilla today! it was okay! a little slow; the movie generally felt very melancholic for the most part. it also had a super indie feel, but apparently that’s because the director did mostly the indie circuit prior to this. that being said, it was enjoyable – but i kept thinking about this one nic cage movie that had a similar plot LMAO
the movie aside, i’m really pleased with how i look right now. ^0^ you can’t tell under all those layers of instagram filters, but my skin has been super iffy as of late. i had really clogged pores and everything was oily and not a good time; i think it also had to do with hormones since it was shark week recently for me. that being said, some manual extraction and gentle exfoliation later, my skin started clearing up! makeup doesn’t cake on me and my skin isn’t as oily anymore. ^0^ i’m really happy, because i couldn’t wear makeup for over a week. it sucked. but today it’s like!!!! yes good. very good.
i’m still alive and i also brought my instagram back to life!! for the longest time it was on private, but tbh all i do is post selfies and maybe food posts (+ the occassional wip thing for school or personal projects) so i decided to bring it back!

i had a great day out with my friend valentina yesterday where we went to some really cool places and also i had to practice driving wwwww
for lunch, we went to this cool place called Raisin’ the Roof – a healthy eatery in Plaza Damansara. we went specifically because val had a coupon (which really helped because tbh we blew some serious $$$ on the food, but it was worth it). everything’s vegetarian and some items are vegan; price-wise it’s alright, but if you’re like val and i who ordered quite a bit, it does add up. like i said, that coupon really came in handy.
the place’s atmosphere was pretty nice! it was quiet with music playing in the background; the staff were really nice to us and overall the food was sooooo good. like oh man. so good.
safe to say, we’re definitely going again. to those interested, there’s a pretty good write-up about the place on Eat Drink KL.
some driving practice later, we then decided to try going to the recently opened Aeon Shah Alam mall – turns out, it just opened the day before. that’s why it was full of people and i was in hell.
all that being said, the mall is really hip and happening and all that good stuff. there’s even an arcade! a molly fantasy, but a decent one in itself. it had two versions of taiko no tatsujin and something i had never seen before – a music gungun2. this is the only mall i’ve seen with that game and as it’s a rhythm game, of course i had to try it out.
so the music gungun series (by Taito, who now also makes the rhythmvaders/groove coaster arcade games, among other rhythm games) are games that combine light gun action with rhythm game beats. you’re basically shooting crap on-screen to the beat of a song — and we were in luck that we were playing the second game, which had anime music, a decent vocaloid selection and also the infamous bad apple. which was fun.
for further info on the series, i found a pretty good write-up here.
val and i did pretty good for our first time playing and it was a good time! definitely going to play this again. i’ll be hunting down the cabinet in other malls — hopefully, i don’t have to head all the way to shah alam to play this again LOL
after the fact, val dropped me back home and i ended up going back with my parents to watch London Has Fallen. i fell asleep through the first movie (Olympus Has Fallen) and this was basically explosions: the movie. i liked it a little despite myself, i guess.
and now to end this with a #motd and #ootd.
i just realized i misspelled athleisure on my original twitter post, fuck
anyway, i went out with val and her boyfriend, mody !! i needed to practice driving for my exam at the end of the month – then we went to eat fried chicken and have ice cream. then i ate a tea egg. also, i was very cute today!!
too lazy to add photos right now but i just blew upwards of rm100 on skincare products and i hate myself but at the same time if i dont end up looking like mamamoo at the end of this then wHATS THE FUCKING POINT
for the record i got: cure natural aqua gel exfoliator (it was rm125, rm112 on discount if you buy two [vanilla got one too]), then the innisfree balancing toner (which was rm56).
LETS SEE HOW THIS GOES
;______; i’m so upset, i recently got a new foam cleanser from tokyu hands during my recent singapore trip – but the cleanser is too harsh on my face. in fact, it makes particular spots on my face freak out.
i told mom i was super upset and all; so she gave me one of her unused cream cleansers. i used it earlier and it didn’t… it didn’t feel like it was going to burn my face off, at least. i’ll have to update on this in the near future.
valentine’s day is around the corner and today i ended up spending the day with vanilla and ili! we finished watching the last of the star wars series (they saw 4 & 5, then the three of us saw 6, 1 & 2, so today we saw 3) – we also did lunch before that, and dinner after. also, ice cream!! very fun day.
also i got angry at my hair and cut my bangs, so now i have straight bangs for the first time since high school (i finally grew out my straight bangs in like…. 2012). it’s weird to revisit this look lmao
today was basically a Good Time and i can’t wait to hang out with everyone again. happy early valentine’s! ^0^
